I read with interest about the sense of despair that has descended on Kennet District Council, because the council grant is to be cut.
It's all very well for Councillor Humphries to blame the Government and then say that Kennet District Council have made £2 million in
savings in the last three years. This surprises me when they closed the Tourist Information Centre in Marlborough. If that's not being wasteful, what is?
Of course it's the same old story year in year out and once more council tax payers are asked to pay more or services will be cut.
But there is an answer to the whole sorry saga and that is the council tax. Yes, scrap it.
We know that services have to be paid for so why not let people pay by their means. They may not be so angry then and this is much more
democratic is it not?
I'm sure if people where asked they would agree. The fair way would be to pay by their means.
