THE COMBINED Melksham/Devizes team made it two wins out of two in the Wiltshire Cup competition with a comfortable victory over their west Wiltshire neighbours.
This came despite being forced to field two newcomers, including under 15 Ollie Downton, and a number of players out of position due to injuries and illness.
With their tight five dominant in the set plays it was no surprise that a scrum against the head led to the opening score. The visitors' number 8 Matt Sollars, returning after several weeks away with the Somerset squad, picked up and drove over for a try that was converted by Scott Simmons.
They moved further ahead when Trowbridge's kick-off was run back at them by David Finlay, carried on by Tom Jonik and then spun wide for outside centre Simon Neck to cross for a 12-0 lead.
A double miss move then saw makeshift winger Ben Fox go over for the third try. Following a scrum in their own 22 the combined backs conjured a fabulous break from defence with Simon Ellinger managing the first half of the pitch.
He released Simmons for a 50 metre dash for the line that was converted by Finlay. Just before half time the fifth and final try was scored when Sollars again took advantage of a good rolling maul.
In the second half Jonik was unlucky not to be awarded a try when he was incorrectly adjudged to have put a foot in touch before crossing the line. The match was sealed by a Finlay penalty.
