STALLHOLDERS in Westbury have vowed to fight after the financial backers for the farmers' markets pulled the plug on the town's monthly Friday market.

A lack of traders and a fall in customers this year forced Wiltshire Farmers' Market Association to close the event on Friday.

But the five remaining traders have promised to carry on despite a proposed road overhaul for Edward Street and plans for a fortnightly farmers' market in Warminster, which organisers claim will be more attractive to traders and already has eight new bookings.

Stallholders in Westbury will now foot the bills themselves, paying extra for rent, umbrellas and tables.
