Bearing in mind the ongoing discussion concerning the Vision for Trowbridge, an important government document was published on October 14.
From the Summer of 2004, all local authorities will have to prepare Local Development Frameworks for the future of their areas and identify where development will occur.
So not only is Trowbridge ahead of the game, it also has the advantage of having had the support of the South West Regional Development Agency opportunity that will be denied to councils coming to the process now.
Instead of scrambling to conform with new legislation, Trowbridge and west Wiltshire can now take advantage of this head start.
At the London Quality Streetscapes urban design conference in May, Trowbridge town clerk Doug Ross and Wiltshire County Council transport and development official Alan Creedy addressed a national audience of urban design experts.
Being seen as forward looking and progressive, together with the sizeable growth planned for both town and district, will do much to encourage dynamic developers and investors.
