A WESTBURY firm's plans to build a 40-home estate on part of its site off Station Road have cleared the first hurdle, after town councillors raised no objections to the scheme.
The development on the ALH site, which is tucked away near the railway bridge, would see a new mini-roundabout built at the junction with the road, opposite the Station Approach.
The firm plans to stay on the site, using spare land for the homes. Alan Pierce, from surveyors RPS, said: "This would be a split-use site with business provision and residential use."
Russell Hawker, town and district councillor, saying: "This proposal is a gratuitous loss of employment land."
The proposed housing estate would be built behind popular pub the Railway Inn, which was given a late licence in August because it was not in a residential area.
