SCROOGE-style thieves stole a Christmas hamper from a Trowbridge doctors' surgery just days before it was due to be given away in a raffle.
Members of the Patients Voice were raffling off a £40 hamper to buy new equipment for the Bradford Road Surgery. But thieves struck sometime between the end of surgery on Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
The patients group had collected goods and sold more than 300 tickets. The winner was due to be picked on Monday. Raffle organisers wanted to use the money raised to buy a combined opthalmoscope/auroscope to improve treatment of eye and ear conditions.
Patients Voice treasurer Diana Matthews said: "We are all obviously distressed to think somebody could do this."
If anyone would like to donate goods for the hamper they can drop them off at the surgery this weekend.
