A PLAY roundabout for children in wheelchairs has been installed in a park in Stratton St Margaret.
The facility, at Meadowcroft Recreation Ground, is the first of its kind in Swindon.
Rain has delayed the laying down of safety surfaces, which need to be fixed before the ride can be opened for public use.
An extended footpath is also being constructed, and it is hoped the ride will be ready for children by the end of next week.
The roundabout accommodates wheelchair users by allowing them to roll onto the platform and secure themselves inside.
Able-bodied youngsters can also use the ride, which has cost Stratton St Margaret Parish Council £8,000.
Parish council clerk Bob Blake said: "It is the first piece of children's play equipment capable of being wheelchair friendly, and it's the only one of its kind in Swindon."
From 2004, councils must make provision for disabled children to use play equipment. "We're always forward-thinking and we're getting in there early," said Mr Blake.
