CASTLE Combe tuned up for tomorrow's titanic A and B Cup first round showdown against bitter rivals Broughton Gifford with a 5-0 win over Freshford United.

A first half hat-trick from James Pope, who added a fourth goal after the break, and a single from Steve Tadhunter clinched Combe a much-needed second league win of the season to extend an unbeaten run to four matches.

Five teams are level on six points apiece in the top flight, with champions Frome Town Sports one of these after being held for the fourth time this season in a 3-3 draw against last season's Division Two runners-up Dynamo West End.

Nigel Newell and Dave Birch gave Dynamo a two-goal lead before Damien Edwards wiped the advantage out. Nathan Mantle restored Dynamo's lead but Kirk Latham grabbed Frome a point.

In Division Two leaders Broughton Gifford Reserves stay top, but only on goals scored, after conceding a shock league double to Bratton. Jamie Bloor finished off a superb first half move to put Bratton ahead and Dave Jones secured a 2-0 win.

Top scorer of the day was Warminster Town's Dave Watkins, who hit five in the 6-1 win over basement side Lavington and Easterton, who were back in action after suspension imposed by the league. Ben Ronning opened Town's account before Watkins' superb performance cemented a league double, with an own goal recording a consolation for Lavington.

Hilperton United's Andy Harding also had on his shooting boots, his free kick and a 25-yard effort giving United a two-goal lead which was doubled by Ojez Desouse and Steve Lewin before the break against Westbury United A. Steve Bruce and Andy Goodenough reduced the arrears but substitute John Harris and another from Harding to complete his hat-trick gave Hilperton a 6-2 win.

Division Three newcomers FC Northbridge are now unbeaten in seven successive matches but come May may well curse the loss of a third point in that run. Having taken a 3-1 lead against Hilperton Reserves they allowed the lowly placed visitors to hit back for a 3-3 draw.

James Starr's 11th and 12th goals of the campaign put Northbridge two up in 15 minutes before Dan Martin replied.

Ian Huntley's free kick restored Northbridge's advantage but late strikes from Samir Naji and Jake Wayman shook the high flyers.

Castle Combe Reserves made no mistake, taking advantage of leaders Seend Reserves' top match with Dilton Marsh being postponed by emulating the first team's 5-0 victory.

Tyrone Prades, Nick Jefferies and Leyton Brown gave Combe a three-goal interval lead against The Stiffs who conceded two more through Prades and goal ace Shawn House, who now starts a five-week suspension.

Apetito's Nigel Penelhum converted a 76th minute penalty but that failed to save them from a 2-1 home defeat by Frome Town Sports who gained revenge for a 3-1 reverse just 14 days before. An own goal and a second from Ben Derrick securing Frome a 2-1 success.

Two matches ended goalless. Bradford United Reserves earned a second successive point against Bromham Reserves while bottom of the table Semington Magpies celebrated by keeping a clean sheet for the first time against Rowde Sports, the previous league and cup meetings between the sides having produced 20 goals.
