A LORRY smash killing both drivers and described as 'total devastation' caused tailbacks across Wiltshire on Saturday.
Wreckage from a head-on collision between two articulated lorries on the A303 at Willoughby Hedge near West Knoyle at 5.30am kept the road closed all day as specialist equipment was moved in to clear the scene.
A 52-year-old driver from Bristol and a 43-year-old driver from Plymouth both died at the scene.
A police spokesman said: "Warnings to motorists were placed as far away as London and Devon in an effort to get people to avoid the road.
"It is unclear how this collision has occurred and we would appeal for anyone who witnessed the collision or arrived at the scene to contact police."
Anyone with information on the incident should contact Salisbury Traffic Police on (01722) 435356.
