Swindon Council has appointed Gavin Jones as Director of Cultural Change.

The job was created in Sep-tember as part of the council's staff restructure and was advertised at £90,000 a year.

Mr Jones will lead more than 500 council staff covering a wide number of services ranging from IT, personnel and training to crime and disorder.

He was previously vice-president of SITA which has its UK headquarters in Middlesex. The corporation provides information and telecommunication solutions to the air transport industry.

Council leader Mike Bawden said: "We are delighted that Gavin has taken up this post. He has the mix of dynamic business and communication skills that we need to help us turn this council around and make us a successful authority."
