THE Woodland Trust is appealing to people not to forget to recycle Christmas cards once the New Year arrives.

The trust, the UK's leading woodland conservation charity, is asking people to help it collect more than the 800 tonnes of cards recycled during the 2003 scheme.

The scheme will be launched officially on January 5, 2004 and will be run in partnership with WH Smith and Tesco.

Recycling bins will be in all WH Smith and Tesco stores across Swindon throughout January.

Trust spokesman Simon Hopkinson said: "Recycling your cards is a great way to help the natural world, including the UK's native woodland.

"Without schemes like ours, even more waste would end up in landfill sites, so make sure you support the 2004 scheme by taking your cards to your local stores."
