REPAIRS are currently being made to the Swindon Pressings plant in Stratton, which was diagnosed with concrete cancer last month.

Several of the aging buildings on the site are suffering from the condition, which is caused when rusting metal reinforcements start to rot.

As revealed by the Advertiser last month, the discovery was made in a routine inspection by workers at the BMW-owned plant in Bridge End Lane.

Company spokeswoman Angela Stangroom refused to reveal the cost of the repairs but stressed production is not being affected.

She said: "We have now identified where the problems are and we are taking action to resolve them.

"No new instances have been found."

Cordons have been set around the buildings, many of which were built in the 1950s, because the cancer can sometimes cause parts of the exterior to come away from the building.

But the inside structure s not affected.

The cancer is caused when metal reinforcements corrode and expand, putting pressure on the concrete.
