EXPERTS from leading universities met at the University of Bath's Oakfield Campus in Swindon last Friday to discuss the use of digital technology in understanding our heritage.

Organised by architecture expert Prof Alan Day and computer scientist Prof Peter Johnson, the symposium brought together academics and specialists from heritage organisations including the Science Museum at Wroughton, the National Trust and English Heritage.

"Digital technology, the technology of the new century, has enormous scope in relation to our understanding, recording and presentation of the past," said Prof Johnson.

"Communities such as Swindon, with a very rich industrial and cultural heritage, need to make it a central feature of their efforts for urban regeneration.

"This symposium shows what can be done.

"It was a meeting for experts, but its implications extend to the whole community."
