LAVERSTOCK & Ford suffered their second defeat in a row, going down 2-1 to high fliers Clanfield.

Errors and wasted opportunities cost strong starters Laverstock dear. Dom Male's succession of shots on goal all missed the mark and Nick Newman's promising strike cannoned off the bar.

Laverstock's efforts were all undone in the closing minutes of the first half, when a clumsy covering tackle resulted in a penalty being awarded to Clanfield.

Within five minutes of the restart, another mistake compounded their fate.

A poor pass out of defence went straight to Clanfield's centre forward who placed the ball in the top corner of the net.

A gritty Laverstock replied with wave after wave of attacks, which were repeatedly thwarted by Clanfield's blocking tackles. Graham Mankin's quick-thinking pulled one goal back when he picked up a cleared ball, firing it straight into the corner of the net.

But the clock was ticking and it proved to be Laverstock's last chance. Clanfield's stubborn defending won the day.
