HOW does owning a Concorde or a GWR steam train sound?

Models of both will be up for grabs at an auction on Thursday.

Every year, Kidson-Trigg auctioneers hold a sale of railway mementos, toys, and other exciting memorabilia.

According to Martin Kidson-Trigg, the auction is a must for all serious collectors as well as those wanting a bit of fun.

Among the items to go under the hammer will be three working train models made by the late Arthur Seary, who was an engineer at Shrivenham College. The largest one 24in long is expected to fetch around £1,000.

Mr Kidson-Trigg said: "The train would be strong enough to set up in your garden and have your own railway.

"There is a huge amount of interest in Swindon from people who used to work in the railway works. A lot of the items come from a local family."

Those perhaps wanting to add to touch of realism to their 'railway' may wish to buy an original gas lamp, which once stood on the platform of Sunningdale near Ascot in 1859.

The recent retirement of Concorde is expected to see a sharp rise in memorabilia prices. Three models used by engineers, as they developed the supersonic aircraft in the 1960s are expected to go for between £2,000 and £3,000.

The auction will be held in the Friars auction rooms on Shrivenham Road.
