Bath will face French side Colomiers in the second round of the Parker Pen Challenge Cup after comfortably completing the formality of the first round second leg tie against Italian minnows L'Aquila at the Rec.

Already leading 75-11 from the first leg in Italy, Bath rattled up another half-century of points as World Cup heroes Iain Balshaw and Mike Tindall both scored tries.

Following a brave start from the visitors, Bath scored with their first meaningful attack on four minutes.

After a powerful drive into the heart of the L'Aquila 22, fly-half Olly Barkley placed a delicate chip over the Italian midfield for centre Alex Crockett to gather and score, Barkley landing the conversion.

On a wet day, Bath's forward dominance told, although they had to wait nearly 20 minutes for thei next score, Barkley going over.

Then a drive from a lineout deep inside the L'Aquila 22 took play up to the line where scrum-half Hentie Martens burrowed over, Barkley again adding the two points.

A flurry of yellow cards followed, Bath's David Barnes and the L'Aquila pair of Mazino and Tagliavento all heading to the sin-bin but it was the home side who capitalised, Barkley scoring his second and adding the conversion.

Then Balshaw, making his home debut this season, romped past the defence to score in the corner and make it 31-0 at the break.

L'Aquila's resistance lasted eight minutes in the second half, prop Matt Stevens taking his tally for the tie to four after his hat-trick last week by peeling off a maul to score under the posts, Barkley yet against converting.

And full-back Matt Perry was next over before Tindall, on for Balshaw, scored Bath's eighth from 60 metres out after a superb break from Barkley, who added his fifth conversion to round things off.
