WOOTTON Bassett consigned Wanborough to their first defeat of the season in the Swindon & District League.

Bassett eventually won the Division Two encounter by four wickets in a tense affair.

Although Paul Sore hit 26 not out, Wanborough were unable to break free and their 107-4 was not enough.

Bassett were contained early on but by keeping wickets intact they were able to accelerate when needed, Howie Griffin top-scoring with 28 not out.

At the other end of the table, Minety cannot buy a win, this week losing to Litten Tree by eight runs in a low-scoring affair.

Litten Tree's 89 all out hardly seemed enough but Matthew Dunn with 3-24 helped restrict Minety to just 81-5.

Up in Division One, Asians gained an expected victory over Wroughton, by a 49-run margin.

Tony Sharma top-scored with 38 not out as the Asians rattled up 122-4, and despite a spirited 26 from Alan Stratford Wroughton crashed to 73 all out.

Highworth moved up the Division Three table by defeating struggling South West by two wickets in the final over.

Gordon Hayward made 47 in South West's total of just 82 all out as Vijay took 3-12.

The pair then reversed roles as Vijay made 39 not out and Hayward took 3-8 in a match full of run-outs.

Wanborough 2nd are still searching for thier elusive first victory havng lost out to Nationwide by two wickets in Division 4.

Gavin Woodward made a valiant 30 as Wanborough crashed to 73 all out, a total that Nationwide overhauled with two overs remaining, Mark Vincent leading the way with an unbeaten 33.

In the division's other game, Wroughton 2nd were untroubled in beating struggling Woodlands by five wickets with two overs remaining.
