CHIPPENHAM Under 13s found the hurdle of Bristol just too big to overcome as they lost 34-8 in the final of the Bristol & District Combination Cup.
Facing a much bigger and heavier team, Chippenham looked nervous from the start and Bristol immediately scored.
Another quick try had them in further trouble, but a 30-minute break due to a serious injury to a Bristol player gave coach Kevin Ingram the chance to make tactical changes.
They gained a penalty which was kicked by Tom Davis but Bristol hit back with another try out wide.
Luke Flowers managed a solitary effort, but Bristol were well worth their win.
There was better news for the under 15s, who thumped Maidenhead 63-0, with tries from Bobby Lyons (3), Lee Audis, Daniel Chivers and John Pomfret (2), Paul Hibbard, Will Moore and Richard Taylor with a couple.
Audis and PJ Rawson kicking two conversions each.
DOMINIC O'Neill scored two superb second-half tries to hand Wootton Bassett Under 15s a 33-7 over Chipping Norton.
After a ruck, second row Rob Brown broke free and dived over.
Further tries came from wing James Nash and captain Chris Moakes.
Two poor tackles let in the powerful Chipping Norton centre, to raise opposition hopes before half-time.
But it was a false dawn. Bassett rang the changes in the second half, bringing on six new players.
And they added further tries, prop Dominic O'Neill finally breaching the defence on halfway and powering past several defenders to score an amazing try.
He repeated it five minutes later, going under the posts.
Russell Barstow converted all but one of the tries.

Against the B team, Marine performed much better, despite conceding the first try.
