The Guardian's Giving List league table has confirmed that Oxford, Swindon & Gloucester Co-operative Society is one of the UK's top ten most generous companies.

The List, which is developed in partnership with the Business in the Community 2003 PerCent Club, lists community support based on percentage of profits used for community benefit.

The percentage donation from OS&G Co-op is 8.07 per cent of Society profits.

During 2003, £367,793 was donated by the Society to local community support, including cash support funding, donations of goods such as products from Co-op stores and staff time and expertise given to support community initiatives.

Bob Burlton, chief executive said: "This is a significant achievement for a regional co-operative Society.

"As a successful and forward thinking co-operative business, one of the ways we demonstrate our ethics and values is by building strong links with the communities we serve."

OS&G Co-op is number nine on The Guardian's list. Tesco and Sainsbury's each gave 1.10 per cent, whilst Waitrose (John Lewis Partnership plc) gave 2.18 per cent.

OS&G Co-op's Community Divided scheme gives funding to local community organisations of up to £1,000.
