Mike Gourley, deputy head of Bradon Forest in Purton.

"I am very pleased with the results, especially in maths.

"We have developed a programme of staff training and development which allows continual learning, which I am sure helped raise our standards."

Gerry Cranfield, assistant head at Kingsdown.

"I am particularly pleased with our value added score, it's a measure of how well a school is helping its children's education.

"I put our success down to hard working staff and pupils.

"We are always trying to improve."

John Saunders, head of Highworth Warneford.

"I think league tables are of limited value because they only give a snapshot of what is going on in a school.

"The most important score for me is added value, which shows how much progress pupils are making."

Jane Aplin assistant headteacher of Dorcan Technology College.

"We are very pleased with our results, and we think they are a reflection of our students' hard work."

Andrew Fleet, headteacher of Hreod Parkway School.

The school had 79 per cent of pupils reaching level 5 in English, 74 per cent reaching the maths target and 62 per cent reaching the science benchmark.

"We exceeded the national and Swindon average in English, equalled national average in maths and were up by eight per cent on last year's science mark, so we are very pleased with the progress that's been made," he said.

"The tables are useful, particularly with the value added measure, but they are a simplistic picture and there are other parts of school life, such as the ethos of the school."
