Radio 1 DJ Colin Murray, of Saturday morning's Colin and Edith show, met students at Wiltshire College Lackham to launch a new youth advice service.

Mr Murray chatted with young people from Wiltshire and Swindon at the official launch of the Connexions Wiltshire and Swindon partnership on Wednesday.

Speaking at the launch of the support, advice and information service for 13 to 19-year-olds, Mr Murray said there were many ways Connexions could have helped him when he was growing up in Belfast.

He said he was Radio 1's Face of Safe Sex and described how young people today face many pressures that Connexions Personal Advisers could help with.

Connexions Direct can help young people with information and advice on issues relating to health, housing, relationships with family and friends, career and learning options, and money, as well as letting them know about activities they can get involved in.

Youngsters aged 16 to 19 are also entitled to a Connexions Card which can be used to get discounts in shops, to earn points for learning at school or college and rewards include back-stage passes at pop concerts and behind-the-scenes days with Premier Division football clubs.

Before coming to the partnership Mr Murray did a mystery shopper call to the Connexions Direct national helpline and was impressed when his call was answered within seconds.

The Connexions service is based at Unit 7, Avon Reach in Monkton Hill, Chippenham. Telephone (01249) 448855.
