THANKFULLY it is rare for killers like Ian Huntley, a school caretaker, to be put in a position of trust where he had the chance to get to know children.
Parents need to know that when they send their sons and daughters into the care of others, such as school staff, youth leaders and clubs that they are being cared for by safe hands.
Protecting our children from harm must include safe recruitment and tougher vetting and selection procedures for everyone who applies to work with children.
It is up to us all to keep an eye out for the safety of the children and prevent the deaths of those we hold so dear. These checks are not enough as has been proved by Huntley.
