The choir from Amesbury Junior School sing carols at the switch-on of Amesbury's Christmas lights. Picture: HERBIE FATHERLY DA4556P3THE generous people of Amesbury have donated more than £3,200 to this year's Tree of Light, organised by the town's Rotary Club.
More than 300 people attended last Wednesday's official switch-on of the lights, performed by mayor Allan Peach in the main car park.
Traders and residents have been supporting the Tree of Light, which is now very much part of Christmas in the town. This year, various charities and appeals will benefit from the Tree, including the Ace of Hearts Appeal (£1,000), Amesbury Stroke Club (£600), Amesbury Link Club (£600), the Foyer Project in Salisbury (a new pool table), Wiltshire Blind Association (£600) and enough money to pay for winter food for animals cared for by the Wiltshire Wildlife Hospital.
