Crudwell Brownies has folded because no volunteers came forward to replace Brown Owl Meryl Walker who is standing down.

Only two people turned up to a meeting held two weeks ago at the village hall aimed at finding a new leader.

Mrs Walker, 54, has been the Crudwell brown owl for the last ten years and is standing down because she is selling the village shop and changing career.

A month ago she warned the group would close if no one came forward and said she was disappointed her search proved fruitless.

"Some of the girls are upset and disappointed by it. It is a lot of fun and I have enjoyed my ten years but it is time for me to move on.

"We have thriving Rainbows, thriving Guides in the village, it is a shame we now have nothing in between," she said.

The 18 Brownies aged between seven and ten held their last meeting last week and now have to find other activities to occupy their time.

However Mrs Walker is still hopeful someone will come forward soon and restart the group.

She said: "It is a lot of fun and I think it needs some fresh blood.

"Brownie leaders just need to like children. It doesn't take a lot of commitment around two hours a week for the Brownies' meeting and three other meetings a year," she said.

Mrs Walker added applicants had to be over 18 but full training would be given and experience was not required.
