DOWNTON'S reserve side contained plenty of teen spirit as they carved out a creditable goalless draw at home to Weymouth reserves on Saturday.

Four of the Robins' under-15s were promoted to the second string, with two starting and three on the pitch at one stage. They were Rob Gallagher and Luke Lewis, of Wyvern College, David Pearce from Westwood St. Thomas and Alex Williamson, of BWS.

First team boss Mitch Blake told Journal Sport: "They were a credit to their schools, and bringing on young players like that is the way forward for Downton.

"We are not afraid to give these boys a chance and we will continue to do so."

Downton's fixture at Cowes Sports was postponed on Saturday, although they fought back well from 2-0 down to draw against Moneyfields at Wick Lane last Tuesday. Ian Stevens and Neal Archer benefited from Chris King assists.

Blake said: "I was more than pleased with the way we came back after we conceded either side of half time. Mark Gulliver did extremely well at right back on his debut and Chris King is on fire. His game has come on and his pace is devastating."

It's a trip to Portland United on Saturday, who beat the Robins 1-0 in August, while the reserves host Gosport Borough reserves.

Blake said: "Portland always give us a tough game, no matter how their form is. They have a partisan crowd and a physical team so we would be grateful for any result."
