CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE: HOLDERS All Cannings overcame a potential banana skin against Third Division Hare and Hounds, who had lost only one of their previous nine matches, to reach the quarter-finals of the PPL Presto Print sponsored Eric Hughes Memorial Knockout Cup.
Having disposed of The Duke Corsham in the previous round, the Hounds felt confident that they could repeat that feat but any hopes they had of causing a cup shock disappeared after just three minutes when Nick Oram put the holders in front.
Richard Holman's 18 yard drive was then deflected home to put Cannings two up. Mark Vowdrey halved the deficit in the second period but the Hounds knew that it was not to be their day when Ben Bridewell's 30 yards shot took a wicked deflection before restoring Cannings' two goal cushion.
Tim Wootton gave the Hounds hope once more but unlike the last round, when they scored at the death, it was Cannings who added the next goal when Stuart Swan headed a Richard Mansell cross into his own net.
Premier Division Bradford News were just too good for Division One opponents The Horse and Groom as they claimed a comfortable 4-0 victory.
Second Division leaders Corsham Centre defeated their Premier Division opponents Hullavington 6-0 to remain unbeaten in all games to date.
James Lye, Simon Grey and Craig Gingell all scored two goals each. The Centre's win owed much to the efforts of defenders Scott Lye and Kevin Brown who were commanding at the back.
Premier Division leaders and cup favourites Sherston Town overwhelmed their Third Division rivals Parsons Nose.
Even though the Nose were in the game for long periods, Sherston showed why they are being tipped to do the league and cup double with a 9-3 win.
Antony Vizard (3), Andy Wicks (3), Matt Wilkins (2) and a Gareth Evans' own goal made life easy for Sherston who never really broke into a sweat.
The all-First Division clash between leaders Biddestone Social and bottom of the table Chippenham Police went to form as Biddestone ran out 2-0 victors.
A much improved Police side, who lost 7-0 to Biddestone only four weeks ago, battled for 90 minutes and fell to a goal in each half from Matt Pratley, the first when he headed home a Rob Pocock cross and the second when he tapped home a John O'Meara cross two minutes from time.
Dean Fry scored Biddestone Arms' consolation as they went down 3-1 at home to North Star A who made the last eight thanks to goals from Tommy Ludford, Pete Thornton and Simon Vowden.
North Star, who are unbeaten in the league and are still in the WG Parr Trophy, are currently having their best run of form for many seasons.

WEST Lavington returned to action after an absence of two weeks without a game with a 3-1 victory over The Duke Corsham.
Steve Curtis' opener for The Duke was cancelled out by Lee Campbell whose sweetly struck shot gave goalkeeper Craig Chaplin no chance.
Simon Drewitt's sixth goal of the season was followed by his seventh midway through the second half as another crisp finish gave Chaplin little hope as Lavington went on to capture a league double over the champions of last season.
Box Rovers moved back into second spot behind Sherston Town who were in cup action as they destroyed Calne Town 7-0. Tim Jefferies led the scoring with four goals and Nick Denham and Hayden Brockhurst, who was making his seasonal appearance, added the other two.
Division One
WINGFIELD made it four wins on the bounce as they defeated Colerne FC 2-1.
After an evenly matched 25 minutes Colerne capitalised on a defensive error from Andy Harding that allowed Jake Jefferies in to give the visitors the lead. Harding redeemed himself 10 minutes later with a telling pass that picked out Lee Frisby who drove the ball home to make it 1-1.
Colerne goalkeeper Charlie Spirrell pulled off a number of outstanding saves but his poor kick upfield was chested down by Rob Edginton who unleashed a lightning strike from 25 yards to earn Wingfield their win.
Trowbridge Harriers completed the league double over The George Lacock with a 3-2 win. Matty Hobbs and Paul Edwards were inspirational in the Harriers' win and this was despite Edwards missing a third penalty on the trot.
Edwards missed his spot kick in the sixth minute and Lee Carpenter gave Lacock the lead within a minute. Jamie Burbedge and James Dowd put the Harriers up 2-1 only for Neil Parrish to equalise before the interval. Burbedge gave the Harriers their win when he picked up a fantastic ball from former Bath City star Hobbs before firing home a great winner.
An excellent treble from Gary Blackwood plus a magnificent free kick from Stuart Wilson, added to a shinned effort from Tony Falcone, earned Chippenham Sports and Social Club a 5-2 win over Atworth United who replied wit ha double from Gary Smith who also missed a number of chances that could off seen Atworth take a point.
Division Two
WITH the top two sides in cup action and North Bradley's match with Sutton Benger a casualty of the weather, Holt's two points from their 4-1 win over Christian Malford saw them close the gap at the top of Division Three.
Scott Evans took his tally for the season to 18 with Malford's consolation.
Division Three
CORSHAM Park Rangers arrested a run of five straight defeats with a 5-0 home win over Sir Audley Arms who they beat way back in August 4-1 to get their season of the a winning start.
Paul Smith and Servet Aslan scored goals late in the first period to give Rangers a 2-0 half time lead. Gordon Willshire made it 3-0 10 minutes into the second half and although Ian Wootton had a 70th minute penalty saved by Arms goalkeeper John Witts further goals from Smith and Willshire saw Rangers home against an Arms side that finished the contest with 10 players after Wayne Burry was given his marching orders.
Four Seasons remain unbeaten as their 8-2 defeat of Trowbridge Town Supporters' Club extended their unbeaten run to 12 games.
Jason Richie, Paul Maddoxs, Marcus Young, Jason Cole, plus two each from Adam Smith and Gary Banks took the Seasons' total of goals scored so far to 58.
Pig and Whistle United's 5-1 victory over Bradstone Rovers moved them well clear of the drop zone. Jeff Hale, Steve Robinson, Adie Cooper and Paul McCarthy (2) made sure the Pig would not receive another roasting from another lowly side. Rob Lymath hit Bradstone's consolation.
Division Four
VIRGIN Mobile hit fellow title contenders Classic FC for six.
In a strongly competitive match second placed Virgin defeated the fourth placed side 6-1.
Dayle Townsend scored Classic's consolation.
A 1-0 victory over Pack Horse Rangers sees the King Arms remain in pole position with a better goal difference than Virgin Mobile.
After conceded 25 goals in four games Bear Casuals have kept a clean sheet in their last two, the latest a 6-0 drubbing of Rowde.
Bottom of the table Plough picked up only their third point of the season and incredibly it came against White Horse FC who they beat 5-1 on the opening day of the season.
Goals from Gary Taylor and Dave Thomas (penalty) gave the Plough a 2-0 half-time advantage over the Horse but at the final whistle they had to settle for a point as the Horse hit back with goals from Mark Pugh and Paul Whale to claim a 2-2 draw.
Old Road Tavern hit back from two goals down to claim a thrilling 5-4 win at home to KSM.
A 35 yard free kick from Phil Watts plus a Mark Bolton effort put the villagers two up, only for Rick Lovenburry to power home a stunning drive from 25 yards to cut the gap before Gavin Aplin scored from the penalty spot to tie things up.
Matt Pike restored KSM's lead only for goals from Martin Woolford and Lovenburry to swing the game 4-3 in Tavern's favour.
Martin Bendry deflected Phil Watts' shot past Bernie Court in Tavern's goal to bring the scores level at 4-4 before Dave Rumble crashed home Tavern's winner with 10 minutes to go.
North Star B had Aaron Taylor and Jim Bettles sent off but managed to cling on to defeat Fascia Graphics 3-2.
Along with the two dismissals five players were also shown the yellow card but both club representatives said the game was not ill-tempered.
Jeremy Spruce and a penalty from Jamie Farquharson were not enough for Fascia as a Simon Clifford brace saw the Star home after Jim Bettles had struck first.
