MP Michael Ancram has urged North Wiltshire District Council to take immediate action to stabilise subsiding land in Churchill Close, Calne.
After visiting the site last week he has written to the chief executive of the council to demand urgent action.
Residents have lost five to ten feet from their back gardens due to subsiding land owned by the council.
A footpath has completely eroded away and the slippage is gradually moving towards the houses, making them impossible to sell.
Last week members of the district Executive Committee visited the site and called an emergency meeting.
Councillor Simon Coy head of finance, said: "I realise something needs to be done." The council is sending engineers to inspect the site in January.
