THE 100-year-old Town Hall in Marlborough could be floodlit in time for the town's 800th anniversary celebrations next year.
In June the town will be celebrating the anniversary of receiving its royal charters from King John.
The Marlborough Area Development Trust is considering giving a grant of £1,000 towards floodlighting the front of the town hall.
Chairman Melvyn Lillywhite told the trust on Thursday that part of funds allocated to enhancing the High Street could go towards illuminating the front of the town hall.
Mr Lillywhite said the trust had £1,000 that could be used to kick-start funds towards lighting up the facade of the building. "It would be jolly nice to have it done in time for the 2004 celebrations," he said.
Coun Maurice Cooper said the town council had 18 months ago considered ways of lighting the front of the building. He said a temporary floodlight had been put up for its centenary but the problem with any lights fixed to the building itself was that they created shadows.
