POLICE have praised the bravery of a mystery motorcyclist who tracked down a convicted burglar and helped return him to prison.
The have-a-go hero jumped into action when two police officers apprehended a man prowling in Westbury High Street at 4.48am on December 5.
The motorcyclist gave chase when the burglar escaped up Haynes Road and found him hiding under a bush.
Sgt Jim Stannard said: "The man is a well-known prolific offender who targets retail and commercial premises.
"This motorcyclist took part in the chase without any thought for his own safety.
"His actions have restored my faith in humanity as a police officer and I would like to publicly thank him."
The chase happened on December 5 at 4.48am and police believe the motorcyclist may have been travelling to work at the West Wilts Trading Estate.
Police have asked the mystery motorcyclist to come forward so he can be personally thanked by the officers involved.
