WILTSHIRE Police's new assistant chief constable Peter Vaughan has cited improved community policing as one of his key objectives.
Mr Vaughan, 41, plans to go out with officers at least once a month and attend a variety of meetings to help in crime prevention and detection.
He also wants to develop force's actions to reduce drug abuse and crimes involving firearms.
Mr Vaughan, who is married to Suzanne and has two children, Scott, 15, and Danielle, 11, said: "I intend to be visible and known, both to staff and communities throughout the county.
"I also want our communities to be dealt with by visible, accessible and knowledgeable officers and police staff a goal which we can achieve by ensuring they have the proper equipment and training.
"I believe every contact leaves a trace, and that communication should be positive and not leave people feeling dissatisfied."
