TROWBRIDGE Town's hopes of extending their lead further at the top of the Wiltshire League Premier Division were destroyed by the weather on Saturday as their match at home to Marlborough was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Trowbridge are four points clear of their closest rivals but have been unable to stretch away any more after two postponements in the last three weeks.

Manager Neil Kirkpatrick admits the postponements are very frustrating but he is confident he has the squad to cope with the inevitable fixture pile up later in the season.

He said: "The same happened last season. We only played one match in December and January and then had to squeeze a lot of games in near the end.

"We have a young squad which is helpful because most of them go to college and so will be able to make evening kick-offs.

"But to be honest it all depends on the luck of the draw. It will be down to who we play and when.

"Biddestone are a good example as they came up against Devizes on Saturday when the first team did not have a game and hopefully that won't happen to us.

"We would give anyone a game but obviously it would not be ideal to come up against anyone's first team."

Trowbridge travel to Melksham Town Reserves tomorrow.
