ALAN Griffin has turned down a move to Screwfix Premier League side Paulton Rovers. The 20-year-old striker has been a key player in Corsham Town's recent revival season and believes he owes it to his manager to stay at the Southbank.

Corsham are fifth in the First Division and are currently on an eight match unbeaten run during which Griffin has starred.

He admits he was flattered by Paulton's interest but felt the time was wrong for him to move on.

He said: "Obviously it was nice to get interest from a club in a higher division but I am happy here so I will stick with the boys and do well hopefully.

"I have got a lot of respect for our manager, Colin Bush. He brought me here and has taught me a lot this season so I feel I owe him quite a lot.

"That is the main reason for me staying really. I just felt I should stick with him."

Griffin moved to Corsham at the start of this season from Hellenic League side Malmesbury Victoria and is happy with how things are going.

He said: "We are flying at the moment. All the boys are close together and we are just playing well on the pitch and really enjoying it.

"I think everyone wants to play at a higher standard but for the moment I am happy playing at the level I am at and just improving.

"We are only half way through the season and I felt it would have been wrong to move now."

He continued: "Also I get regular football here and there would be no guarantee of getting that at Paulton. I am only young and want to be playing first team football. I am not the sort of player who is happy sitting on the bench."

Manager Bush was delighted to hear his striker had decided to stay.

He said: "In his own development Alan knows he needs to stay here.

"He is only a youngster and will get regular football here. He is not stupid and knows the right time to move and knows this is not it.

"I am delighted he is staying and it is the right decision. I am glad he is not chasing the buck and can see the bigger picture.

"It seems every month a Premier Division club comes in for one of my players and it must show that my careful selection of players pre-season made other managers very interested in what Corsham have got."
