I AGREE with Stanley H Jones that we are on a dangerous road. The banning of nativity scenes from Red Cross cards and displays is an example.
More serious is the absence of younger people in the church membership. We are an unchristian society because religion is considered a nuisance.
Too many people believe in government by law, and think that the more laws we have, the better we will behave; yet the more laws that are produced the more there are to be disobeyed. We are not lawless, we are sinners.
The breakdown of personal responsibility, together with the irritant of bureaucracy, have tempted us into misbehaviour and ill-will.
The 'tax and spend' policy to promote fairness is failing because the cost of taxation does not lie where it falls; it is pushed around the economy until it rests on those least able to bear it.
Tax avoidance, even by spending less on goods and services, is entirely legal.
Christ lived in a theocracy and believed in the law and the prophets; for attacking the religious leaders for their humbug and bureaucracy he was crucified for being politically incorrect, as well as blasphemous.
Today's Christians in the west should promote more love, not more laws. We should not be afraid to being politically incorrect.

WELL done, Stanley H Jones (Wiltshire Times Star Letter, December 5). Yes, this is a Christian country, and let's celebrate the fact. (Christ)mas is just that, Christ's Mass. Each to their own, but I for one will stand up and be counted as a Christian. Thanks be to God.
