REFERENCE the Deverill Valley speed camera as featured in recent local publications and television news.
Having travelled this road for many years I have witnessed the increase in speed and the standard of driving has now reached a totally unacceptable level.
I applaud the actions by Mr Dews and would like to add a comment that if speeding drivers injure themselves and others speeding, by having to brake violently due to the fact that they have seen the 'camera' and are breaking the law, this is better than an innocent child walking to the school bus or other pedestrians using the road being killed.
This refers to the comments made on local television.
I will be contacting Mr Dews to support his action, and should the camera or road markings be removed, then surely the local police and highway authority have a duty to ensure a minor road featured in the national media is now made safer.
With regards to the amount of traffic using the road published in the media it was unfortunately exaggerated by approximately 80 per cent in my opinion.
Considering the fact the road is classed as a B road running through the Deverill Valley and is used by heavy goods vehicles and long distance coach companies as a short cut to avoid main roads, it still only requires one irresponsible driver to kill a human being.
