Peter Biggs, a retired schools inspector, clearly cannot resist the urge to find an easy target (volunteer town councillors) to ask questions and then publish his criticisms, regardless of the incalculable damage he causes by undermining confidence in people and community facilities (Wiltshire Times, December 12).

Dr Biggs attended the full town council meeting on November 3 and asked quite bizarrely why he's received no reply from Westbury Town Council to the previous letter he put in a newspaper.

He was informed that the council is based at The Laverton and so post should be addressed there if he wants a reply.

As a qualified property investment analyst, chartered surveyor and member of the Laverton management team, I am more than qualified to explain his misunderstandings if he cares to ask properly. In the meantime, I have this advice:

1. Decisions taken at full council meetings often follow from previous meetings, so some points may not need to be mentioned by councillors to each other if they are not still a moot point.

2. Not all councillors are experts on a topic, so don't expect everything said by each to be spot on.

3. Many people want the Laverton restored as the venue of first choice for medium-sized public and private functions others will understand when they see for themselves.

4. Make no mistake The Laverton deserves backing and is under new management.

5. Careless public criticism can cause self-fulfilling prophecies.
