ICY weather created havoc for motorists travelling to work in Swindon.
Three car accidents occurred in Mill Lane, Westleaze, to the north of the M4, yesterday at around 8.20am.
One car lost control on the icy surface, left the road and ended up in a field, causing damage to a fence.
Another car skidded across the carriageway and a third left the carriageway, landing in a ditch. There were no injuries but the road was closed at the Wharf Road junction while the accidents were cleared, causing delays.
The road, which had not been gritted, was re-opened at 9.40am and gritted by Swindon Council highways maintenance workers.
Mill Lane, which has ice hazard warning signs for motorists, is not one of the council's scheduled routes for salting. Swindon Council spokesman Gavin Calthrop said: "We salt almost half of the 760km of roads in the borough."
