A CONCERT is being held tonight in memory of Trowbridge schoolgirl Charlotte Wakeham who died in September after losing her fight against cancer.

Starry Eyes singers will take to the stage at Melksham Labour Club to raise money for the Charlotte's Chance of Life Fund.

The fund was set up last year to pay for respite care and medical research after Charlotte was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour.

Wiltshire Times readers helped raise more than £30,000 and since her death her family has continued fundraising to help other families in the same situation.

Her grandmother, Wendy Bryant, said: "It would be smashing if we can fill the club tonight.

"Charlotte went to a Starry Eyes concert in Trowbridge last year and absolutely loved it, she had a fantastic time."

The concert starts at 7pm and is followed tomorrow by an all-day darts tournament which anyone can enter.

Sally Boyle, Starry Eyes co-director, said: "The family still wants to keep the fund going to help other sick children and their families.

"We had the pleasure of having Charlotte as our guest of honour at our August Summer Special Show, so we would like to do this for her.

"We are proud to have known her and proud that she did us the honour of being our guest and we are glad that our show made her happy."

Charlotte would have celebrated her ninth birthday on December 9 and Ms Bryant said it was a very difficult day for the family.

She said: "It was horrible and we were not sure what to do on the day so I spent it with her parents Alison and Bill.

"In the afternoon we opened a bottle of champagne and toasted her memory.

"We talked about her a lot which was nice, but nothing could prepare me for how difficult it was."

Ms Bryant said Charlotte's brother Leigh, five, is missing his sister especially with Christmas around the corner.

She said: "Losing Charlotte has hit Leigh very hard.

"He still talks to her all the time and we have got him a present from Charlotte to open on Christmas day.

"He is such an amazing child, so unselfish because he knows that Charlotte was ill and believes she is in a happier place but yet he just really misses her."

Ms Bryant's daughter, Vicky Fonteyne, is expecting a baby due tomorrow.

Ms Bryant said: "I have really spoiled all the grandchildren this Christmas because losing Charlotte has made me appreciate having the others around so much.

"I am so excited about Vicky's baby and it will be lovely to have someone new in the family."
