English Heritage is asking the public to help decide how the nation's archive of historical images should be organised.
The National Monuments Record Centre, based in Kemble Drive, Swindon, launched a major review last month asking people about its services.
So far about 400 people have responded and Nigel Clubb, the director of the centre, has appealed for more people to voice their views.
He said: "So far the response has been encouraging. But we are keen to hear what more people think."
The £20,000 national consultation will enable the centre, which holds more than six million photographs belonging to English Heritage, to decide its future for the next five years.
Some 4,500 consultation papers have been sent to main users of the centre, which maintains a national database of indexed descriptions of monuments and buildings. The services can also be accessed via the internet. Mr Clubb said: "One of the messages coming through so far is that people want to access our information on the web."
People have until February to respond. If you wish to receive a consultation paper, send an email to NMRreview@English-heritage.org.uk or call 01793 414600.
