MINETY ended the first half of their
Dorset & Wilts Division 1 campaign with an emphatic 60-0 home win over a courageous but ineffective Weymouth XV.
The seasiders competed vigorously and tackled with conviction but could not match their hosts up front. Minety for their part looked sharp in all phases of play and benefited from an outstanding performance from number 8 Keith Arrell who contributed no fewer than four of his team's 10 tries.
Off to a flying start, Minety scored their first try from a catch-and-drive lineout move that saw hooker and captain Dave Peirce successfully touchdown for five points before the game was five minutes old.
The skipper scored the second try too, this time breaking up the blindside from a driving maul in Weymouth's 22.
Minety's third try and Arrell's first came from a five metre scrum awarded after the visitors carried the ball back over their own line.
Arrell scored his second and third tries breaking off the base of five metre scrums and crashing though Weymouth's defence.
Arrell completed his haul with yet another try off the back of a
five metre scrum as the home side saw off their visitors.
