ANDREW Bailey was so shocked when he discovered he had won the Evening Advertiser's Win Christmas competition, he had to ring back to check it was true.

Mr Bailey, 52, is now busy deciding what he is going to do with his selection of prizes and vouchers worth more than £3,000.

The self-employed motor technician revealed how he had never won anything before when he entered our competition.

Between December 1 and 13 the Evening Advertiser featured a question relating to a different Swindon company, which had donated that day's prize.

All entries were then automatically entered into the main draw.

In addition to the daily prizes, each company had handed more than £300 worth of vouchers to be used in their store.

Mr Bailey said he was originally after a DVD player, which was up for grabs on December 6.

"It was a wet Saturday afternoon and I picked up the paper and thought I would have a go at winning it.

"I had completely forgotten about the first prize I never thought I would end up winning that.

"I am the sort of bloke who has three lottery rows every week and gets two numbers on each row.

"It has taken a while for it all to sink in."

Mr Bailey plans to spread the wealth with his wife Sheila, 53, a secretary at Ridgeway Secondary School in Wroughton, and two daughters Rachael, 21 and Lisa, 23.

"I think they thought I was messing about at first I like to have a joke now and again," he said.

"But they were ecstatic when they found out, although they have probably already spent the vouchers in the shops.

"This prize will really put the icing on our Christmas cake."

The companies involved in the great giveaway were: Boots, McAthurGlen, Hickmans, Richer Sounds, Wyevale, F.Hinds, Fitness First, Borders, Cotton Traders, Mountain Ware-house and Dunelm Mill.
