BEER fans are enjoying the taste of Christmas in a pint following the launch of Arkell's annual Christmas brew.

Just 15,000 pints of Noel Ale have been brewed this year and they are available in all Arkell's pubs from the cask.

They are also available in bottles, for those who prefer to take their beer home to drink.

Head brewer Don Bracher said: "We brew just once a year for this popular beer and when the last pint's drunk, we have to wait another 12 months to taste it again. So it's not surprising that it sells so well."

Noel Ale was first brewed by former Arkell's brewer Don Kenchington in 1987.

It was named after the current chairman's grandfather, Sir Noel Arkell.

At 5.5 per cent ABV, Noel Ale has been a winter favourite in Arkells pubs for more than 15 years. It's strong, and the full-bodied flavour is disguised by a distinctive light colour.

Arkell's Noel Ale costs £2.20 a pint and it is only available until December 31.

Spokeswoman Nicky Godding said: "The Noel Ale is always popular and we only sell it throughout December to make sure it keeps its festive feel."
