A GROUP that gives disabled musicians the chance to take part in jam sessions at a local pub is appealing for support from Swindon companies.

Regulars of Music Alive, formed in the town last year, join regulars of the Bell Inn at Purton Stoke for the session each Monday night.

"It is a chance to make music together," said the charity's director Debbie Wolfsohn.

The group provides specialist music lessons, which help develop communication and life skills for people with all manner of disabilities.

It has 39 regular clients attending each week, but is also asked to provide musicians for other performances and concerts.

"Regular music sessions enable a client to participate fully in purposeful activity.

"It improves their ability to communicate with a wider range of people and develop their skills in making music," she explained.

"For many, a music session is the highlight of their week."

It costs £53,796 a year to operate the service and although members pay a nominal fee, the group relies entirely on fundraising for its survival.

Anyone wanting to contribute can contact Music Alive at Bentham House, Purton, Swindon, SN5 4HZ for more information or call 01793 770699.
