A COUNTRY stroll by a Pewsey pensioner left him unconscious at the roadside with a head injury.
Police are not naming the 70-year-old who lives on the Broadfields estate. He was injured as he walked along Milton Road, Pewsey, on Thursday at about 3pm.
Officers believe from his injuries, and from his last recollection of seeing a lorry, that he was struck by the wing mirror of a lorry.
He was knocked unconscious and was spotted by a passing motorist, who knew him, and stopped to help.
The pensioner was taken to the doctor's surgery in Pewsey and was sent by ambulance to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon, where he underwent surgery.
PC Gary Sears, who is investigating the incident, said: "We are fairly certain he was struck by the wing mirror and that the driver was completely unaware of what happened."
The injured pensioner was allowed to return home to his wife on Friday.
