REPAIRS on vandalised public toilets in Wootton Bassett have still not started. The women's and disabled loos on Station Road, were closed 18 months ago after vandals wrecked them.
North Wilts District Council awarded the town £6,000 earlier this month and said work would start last Thursday.
District councillor Chris Wannell (Con), who has been fighting the residents' corner since the block closed, has not noticed any activity at the toilets.
He said: "I think it is a bit of a bad job. They should carry out the job properly.
"Residents are going to have to carry on their crossing their legs.
"It is a bit of a coincidence the district council set the date on the same day as the by-election.
"I think it was a scam to get their candidate elected which they didn't.
"These toilets are used a lot by the elderly and mothers with young children."
He is disappointed the full £15,000 needed to completely vandal-proof the block was not granted, and that the problem may re-occur.
District councillor Stephen Walls (Lib Dem) said: "I am disappointed the work has not yet started but I understand the delay is on the part of the supplier who has yet to deliver the necessary replacements.
"We have been waiting a long time for this so I trust the work will commence immediately after Christmas, if not then in the New Year."
