A WARNING about bogus doorstep callers has been issued by Thames Water.
The company, which supplies the Swindon area, acted following a report by a customer in Aldbourne about a person trying to get into a house by pretending to work for the firm.
It has not had any reports from Swindon, but wants to alert customers as a pre-emptive measure.
Thames Water publishes a special free guide for anybody needing to know how to avoid being conned.
Customer services manager Jill Jones said: "We take the issue of bogus callers very seriously.
"Our guide is designed to give peace of mind to customers who may feel vulnerable when answering the door to an unknown caller. "Customers can also take advantage of our password scheme.
"Callers from Thames Water will then use this password when visiting a customer's properties, showing they are who they claim to be."
Anyone who wants a copy of the guide can telephone the 24-hour hotline on 0845 9200 800.
