COACHLOADS of people have made special trips to see a Melksham town councillor's dazzling Christmas display.

More than 10,000 bulbs light Colin Goodhind's house in Longford Road.

He admits his electricity bill shoots up by £40 every December but says it is money well spent.

He said: "It makes people smile. So many positive things have been said about the display. We don't get any criticism. The only moans we get are from neighbours because their kids start pressurising them to put something up."

His 19-year-old son, Alex, is the driving force behind the annual lights spectacular, and he spends about two months checking and putting up the decorations.

As well as lights, illuminated figures, including Santa and reindeer have been put up on the house.

New additions are made to the display every year.

Visitors can make donations, and Cllr Goodhind expects, a long with the help of money raised by neighbours' displays, to top £1,000 this year.

He said: "We donate the money to Operation Chr-istmas Child. We have been supporting them for the last couple of years."
