THE public loos in Bradford on Avon station car park came out smelling of roses when they were named the best of their type in England at a national awards ceremony in Birmingham.
West Wiltshire scored highly in the annual Loo of the Year Awards, when the British Toilet Association also gave awards to public toilets in Church Street, Melksham, and the High Street car park, Westbury, which scored five stars in this year's ratings.
A partnership between West Wiltshire District Council and contractor InterPublic was commended in the Cannon Hygiene Attendant of the Year Awards.
Cllr Richard Wiltshire, the district council's environmental services portfolio holder, said: "To receive these national awards is quite amazing, given the size of the district and the relatively limited funds that we have available.
"During our partnership with InterPublic we have aimed to provide the best possible facilities that we can, and this recognition is proof we have succeeded."
Introduced in 1987, the annual Loo of the Year awards focus on 'away from home' toilets and aim to encourage the highest possible standards.
The Eden Project in Cornwall won the overall trophy for Loo of the Year.
