TICKETS for a chance to see seven of the world's top snooker players at work in Trowbridge have been selling fast.
Over half the 2,000 tickets were sold within seven days of the two-day event being announced.
The Wiltshire Times is bringing the 2004 Premier Snooker League to Trowbridge as part of its 150th anniversary celebrations next year. Top players Stephen Hendry, Marco Fu, Jimmy White, Paul Hunter, Steve Davis, John Higgins and Mark Williams will play at the Civic Hall on February 14 and 15. The event will be televised by Sky Sports.
The League, which has a total prize fund of £180,000, with £45,000 for the champion and £500 on offer for every frame won, is split into 21 matches at four venues across the UK. The final will be at Colwyn Leisure Centre, North Wales, in March.
Details of an amateur competition, in which one lucky reader will have the chance to play a frame against one of the top players, will be announced soon.
Due to a production error the matches for February 15 printed in last week's Wiltshire Times were incorrect. The matches being played in Trowbridge are: February 14: 4pm Steven Hendry v Marco Fu; 8pm Jimmy White v John Higgins. February 15: 12noon Jimmy White v Mark Williams; 4pm Steve Davis v Marco Fu; 8pm John Higgins v Paul Hunter.
