ANDY KING is demanding Dr Jekyll and not Mr Hyde when Town take on Brighton and Hove Albion at the County Ground.
An inability to string a run of results or performances together sees Town in 14th spot at the halfway point in the Division Two campaign.
Twenty three matches remain to put matters right but King knows his players need to start delivering sooner rather than later.
He said: "What I have to analyse is the Jekyll and Hyde situation.
"We have got to stop conceding goals at set pieces and find consistency within in our play.
"When we can do those two things, we have the quality in there to create chances and score goals and we'll be okay.
"What you'll find though is that if I keep standing here and talking about it, we'll be running out of time.
"The sooner we start doing it the better."
A good win has all too often been followed by a poor defeat against mediocre opposition.
The last seven days have followed that pattern. A good win at Brentford was followed by a miserable 2-0 reverse at Rushden and Diamonds, a defeat which saw Rory Fallon sent-off in the first-half.
Strong home form usually plays a big part in helping a side achieve automatic promotion or a play-off place and King wants Town to use successive fixtures at the County Ground as a platform to build both momentum and a run.
He said: "To get in the play-offs, we have to win the overwhelming majority of our home games.
"Of the remaining home games, let's say we can have one loss and one draw. That's the target.
"At the end of the day they, the players, have to take responsibility on board themselves.
"If they don't, they won't be there. It's that simple.
"People have to do their jobs.
"The only threat a manager has is to change things. I will do that if I feel it's necessary."
As for the game with the Seagulls, there will be at least one change from the side which lost at Rushden. Steve Robinson is ruled out following his red card against Plymouth Argyle a fortnight ago.
