POLICE are warning Swindon shoppers to take extra care of their handbags and wallets when hunting for bargains in the January sales.
Steve Coxhead, spokesman for Wiltshire Police, had some advice for people searching for a good deal.
He said: "People should be extra vigilant, especially during the January sales rush.
"They might be out for a bargain but so are the pick pockets.
"Women should pay particular attention to their handbags.
"They should have their bags to the front of them and not just slung over their back.
"And if you have a purse or wallet in your pocket, make sure your hand is in it and not somebody else's."
Swindon police can be contacted on (01793) 528111 for community advice or to report a theft.
